3. Be a King
I bet each of you reading this right now wouldn’t really mind assuming Royalty but let’s take a step back. We ain’t talking about Worldly Political Kings, we are talking about the King of Kings, Jesus and becoming Humble Kings just like Him. Since we are in the early stages of this new Liturgical Year, let’s try to make the most out of it by having a certain sense of the big picture, especially in this context. From Advent right up till the Feast of Christ the King, we see how Christ the King was powerful not in worldly terms with force, oppression and thumping domination but with humility, submissiveness (to His Father’s Will) and graciousness.
From the moment of His birth right up till the Cross, God the Son was fixed on pleasing the Father. It was only with such humility, submissiveness and graciousness to the point of His death on that Powerful Cross that God the son could be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, ascend into Heaven and be seated at the right hand of the Father. We usually zero in on the exultation part of sequence, if we zero in at all but the challenge is to zero in on the sacrifice, suffering and death in order to receive such exultation.
Let us learn to be humble Christian Kings who know how to love and serve our families, friends, loved ones, close circles and even more so those that we like the least. Serving others will involve getting our hands dirty just as the Lord did when he washed the feet of His disciples. Are we willing and ready to lay our lives down for those that the Lord has entrusted to our care? Let us be faithful in these small things so that the Lord can entrust us with bigger ones. Let us be as God-oriented in the mundane as we are in the mountain top experiences. Start at home. Start at work. Start at school. Start. Just start.
